Green – High Demand,  Orange – Medium Demand,  Red – Low Demand

Note:  Please remember this demand table is just a guide to give you the most bang for your buck, whilst trying to get your foot in the door.  If you had your heart set on a certain occupation and it displays a red demand, don’t let us put you off.  Just be aware of it and know that you may have to work harder, longer or smarter to get your way in and possibly to have a fall back plan.  As we said the demand tables are just a guide, meaning they are a generalisation and will vary from project to project, site to site, location to location etc.

Carpenter jobs generally require you to complete the Certificate III in Carpentry (4 year apprenticeship).  Carpenters repair, refurbish, construct, erect, install and finish timber and metal structures.  Carpenters work in the building and construction industry, mainly on residential and commercial buildings.

Builder Jobs
Builder jobs generally require you to complete the Certificate IV in Building & Construction.  A Builder is a Licensed Carpenter.

Formworker Jobs
Formworker jobs generally require you to complete the Certificate III in Formwork/Falsework (4 year apprenticeship).  Form workers erect and dismantle formwork to suspended slabs, columns, beams & walls. Formworkers carry out general demolition of minor building structures, work in the building & construction industries.

Concreter Jobs
Concreter jobs generally require you to complete the Certificate III in Concreting (4 year apprenticeship).  As a Concreter you place, spread, compact, finish and cure concrete for all kinds of structures including commercial and domestic buildings, industrial floorings, tunnels, bridges and roads.

Bricklayer Jobs
Bricklayer jobs generally require you to complete the Certificate III in Bricklaying (4 year apprenticeship).  A Bricklayer lays bricks/blocks in mortar to build and repair walls, foundations, arches, partitions, piers and other structures in the building and construction industries.

Steelfixer Jobs
Steelfixer jobs generally require you to complete the Certificate III in Steelfixing (2 year apprenticeship).  Steel Fixers place reinforcement steel in footing trenches, on framework and on-ground slabs in preparation for the concrete pour.  The reinforced steel gives the concrete strength.  If the reinforced steel is not adequate or missing, the concrete structure will crack and collapse.  Steel Fixers work in building and construction industries.

Electrician Jobs
Electrician jobs generally require you to complete the Certificate III in Electrotechnology Systems Electrician (electrical fitter / mechanic)(4 year apprenticeship). Electricians install, repair, maintain, test and commission electrical apparatus in domestic, commercial, industrial and mining applications.

Instrumentation Tech Jobs
Instrumentation Tech jobs generally require you to complete the Certificate III in Instrumentation and Control or Certificate IV in Electrical/Instrumentation (5 year apprenticeship or 18 month add on if you’re already an electrician).  E/I Techs are Electricians plus an Instrumentation Fitter, in this trade you install, repair, calibrate, maintain and commission transmitters, valves, metering equipment to automatically control and monitor instrumentation apparatus.

Auto Electrician jobs generally require you to complete the Certificate III in Automotive Electrical Technology (4 year apprenticeship).  Auto Electricians install, maintain, identify faults and repair electrical wiring, wiring harnesses and devices on mining equipment, earth-moving equipment, farming equipment and general automotive vehicles.

High Voltage Electrician jobs generally require you to complete the High Voltage Operations Course.  HV Electricians are qualified Electricians that work on high voltage apparatus consisting of Transformers, Breakers, Motors and switching of 1000Vac or more.

Electrical Distribution Lineman jobs generally require you to complete the Certificate III in ESI Distribution(4 year apprenticeship).  Distribution linespersons perform a range of tasks including install, fault find, repair, tests and commission HV & LV distribution apparatus, transformers and substation works.

Telecommunication Tech jobs generally require you to complete the Certificate III in Electrotechnology (ET) Communications (2 year apprenticeship).  Telecommunications Tech’s work on XLV apparatus in the communications fields, phone cabling, internet cabling and fibre optics.

Refrigeration / Air Con Tech Jobs
Refrigeration / Air Con Tech jobs generally require you to complete the Certificate III in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (4 year apprenticeship).  Refrigeration/Air Con Tradesman assemble, install, repair and service air conditioning units and refrigeration units in domestic, commercial and industrial industries.

Boilermaker Jobs
Boilermaker jobs generally require you to complete the Certificate III in Engineering Fabrication (Boilermaking) (4 year apprenticeship).  Boilermakers oxy cut, grind, weld and finish metal to build, repair, manufacture and maintain metal structures and products.

Spray Painter jobs generally require you to complete the Certificate III in Automotive Vehicle Body (4 year apprenticeship).  Spray Painters perform specific techniques to remove rough spots on vehicle panels, sanding surfaces, carrying out masking procedures, colour matching and mixing paints, applying primer and finishing coats and polishing and waxing the finished paint work.
