About the South Flank Iron Ore Project
South Flank has been flagged by BHP Billiton to potentially replace the volume of iron ore that currently is produced from the Yandi mine, which is forecast to exhaust its reserves in five to 10 years.
- Owner – BHP Billiton.
- Project scope estimated at US$2.9 billion.
- Project now approved.
- Project includes:
- Crushing facilities
- Overland conveyors
- Stockpile and Ore handling plant infrastructure
- Train Load Out Facilities
- and expansion to essentially infrastructure
- Located approximately 100 km north-west of Newman.
- BHP have announced a handful of contracts, but are currently seeking expressions of interest from further potential contractors.
- Construction is expected to start soon with first ore expected to roll out in 2021.
- Expected to provide about 2500 jobs during construction and around 600 ongoing roles in production.

A construction job like this will usually require:

- Crane Operators
- Electrical / Instrumentation Trades
- Mechanical Trades

Qualifications that may help you get a foot in at the South Flank Iron Ore Project
- Relevant Trade Qualifications and WA Licences
- Occupational Health and Safety – Construction Induction (White Card)
- Australian Drivers Licences
- High Risk Work Licence for any required plant, eg. EWP, Forklifts, Mobile Crane, Loaders.
- Safely Working at Heights – for EWP workers
- Ability to pass Medical including Drug and Alcohol screening.
- Dogging/Rigging/Scaffolding tickets
- CPR and First Aid Certificate
- Cert IV or III Instrumentation (For Electricians)
Companies / Organisations Involved with the South Flank Iron Ore Project
- BHP Billiton – Owner / Operator
- Monadelphous – Enabling Works
- Monadelphous -$108M structural, mechanical, piping and electrical and instrumentation works associated with the project’s outflow infrastructure (approximately 400 employment opportunities)
- Fluor – Construction management services
- Decmil – Village Construction and Facilities
- Clough – EPC contract to deliver the non-process infrastructure (NPI) for the South Flank Project.

An Enterprise Bargaining Agreement (EBA) is a collective industrial agreement between either an employer and a trade union acting on behalf of employees or an employer and employees acting for themselves.
We are yet to find any EBA’s for this project. As we find any EBA’s they will be added to this article.
