About the South Flank Iron Ore Project

South Flank has been flagged by BHP Billiton to potentially replace the volume of iron ore that currently is produced from the Yandi mine, which is forecast to ­exhaust its reserves in five to 10 years.

Quick Facts:

  • Owner – BHP Billiton.
  • Project scope estimated at > $2 billion.
  • Project still in the study phase.
  • Proposed project includes:
    • Crushing facilities
    • Overland conveyors
    • Stockpile and Ore handling plant infrastructure
    • Train Load Out Facilities
    • and expansion to essentially infrastrucutre
  • Located approximately 100 km north-west of Newman.
  • BHP currently seeking expressions of interest from potential contractors.
  • Construction is expected to start in the first quarter of 2018.
  • No contracts yet awarded.
  • Project still requires necessary approvals before confirmation.
  • Some estimates predict the need for approximately 2000 workers during construction, however there is yet no confirmation of this.

An Enterprise Bargaining Agreement (EBA) is a collective industrial agreement between either an employer and a trade union acting on behalf of employees or an employer and employees acting for themselves.

We are yet to find any EBA’s for this project. As we find any EBA’s they will be added to this article.
